Goose Bay Central Heating Plant Addition

When the Goose Bay Central Heating Plant — built in 1954 — required an addition and upgrade, we provided the mechanical equipment, piping, controls, and insulation. The remote location required unique solutions, and we also provided cost-saving alternatives.

The facility’s oil-fired and electric boilers had reached the end of their effective useful lives when we were brought in to provide the mechanical upgrade. Our primary mechanical work included an addition to the existing structure and the additino of supplementary heat to the existing building. This included 18 unit heaters and three large steam boilers with a total capacity of 140,000 lbs/hr of steam production.

The plant’s remote North-Eastern location required unique solutions to meet the scope of work and budget. To accommodate these needs, we purchased and prepared much of the materials off-site, then containered and shipped prefabricated components on time for construction work to begin. This capitalized on lower material costs available in less remote locations.

Despite the challenges, we completed the project successfully and on schedule.
