Location: British Columbia
Market Sector: Commercial Office
Delivery Method: Fixed Price
MEC’s head office in Vancouver was designed and constructed to demonstrate the co-op’s innovation – including its LEED Platinum status.
We provided the HVAC, plumbing, and sprinkler systems for the new building when it was constructed between 2013 and 2014. This included:
- A high-efficiency mechanical system
- Geothermal wells coupled with ground source heat pumps
- Heating and chilled water generated during off-peak hours and stored in thermal tanks for next day’s operation
- Three large wind/ventilation towers with the building oriented to take advantage of prevailing wind
- Water conservation features including low-flow plumbing fixtures, waterless urinals, and rain water harvesting to irrigate the green roof and other landscaping
- Grey water system provide flushing water for toilets
Sustainable performance achievements in this project include:
- Energy intensity reduction relative to reference building under MNEBC=68%
- Potable water consumption reduction relative to reference building=60%
- Recycled material (by value) = 19.7%
- Regional materials (800 km radius) by value=33.5% of LEED materials divisions
- Construction materials diverted from landfill=94%
