The Maritime Centre, or “The Bell Aliant Building”, as most locals know it, one of the few tall buildings in Halifax’s downtown core.

When the building’s underground oil tank expired, the owners had to decide what to do with 13,000 litres of dirty, unusable diesel fuel. Discarding the oil and refilling the tanks would have had significant environmental impact, consumed significant staff resources, and required costly fuel-replacement.

Working with our partner, Refuel Systems, we were able to reclaim the dirty fuel and reuse it in the new tank. Refuel pumped the dirty fuel from the old underground tank through its Mobile Fuel Filtration Unit, then stored the clean fuel in a holding truck before transferring it to the new tank. The oil was then filtered a second time before transferring it to the new tank to ensure it was in premium condition.

This project saved the landowner a substantial amount of time and money and required only six hours to salvage 13,000 litres of fuel. In addition, no harmful environmental impacts were created through the disposal of old fuel, and labor hours were significantly decreased.
