The Canadian Centre for Fur Animal Research and the Life Sciences Research Institute at Dalhousie University occupy a new state-of-the-art building that provides research and incubator space for the Halifax region’s growing life sciences and biotechnology sectors.
We provided the HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for the construction of this unique and complex facility. The top floor of the building is a breeding facility and the complex also contains research labs and feeder laboratories.
Our work included:
- Complete lab air-flow systems
- A special animal waster removel system
- Tie-in to an existing high-pressure steam system
- Low-flow plumbing to reduce the use of potable water
- A complete Optinet air-sampling system that increases ventilation effectiveness by monitoring air quality and adjusting ventilation as required.
- A special medical gas system for laboratory animals
- Specialized laboratories for brain research
- Feeder laboratories for temporary (6-12 month) use
Despite the complex systems required for this project, we successfully met a tight project deadline.
